Maximin’s Secret from La Salette

Maximin, the boy seer, wrote out the secret on three different occasions, each time providing more detail.This information was trnslated from a French book “Découverte du Secret de La Salette,” published by Librairie Arthème Fayard in 2002. This book has the Nihil Obstat from Abbaye Notre-Dame de Tournay, 13 February 2002, Dom Bernard Billet. The Imprimatur is from Èvry, le jour Pâques 2002, Mgr. Michel Dubost.

These secrets are as follows:

Maximin’s Secret – Version 1, written 3 July 1851

September 19, 1846, we saw a beautiful Lady. We never said that this lady was the Blessed Virgin but we always said that it was a beautiful Lady. Me, I believe today that it is the Blessed Virgin. Here is what this Lady said to me:

If my people continue, what I will say to you will arrive earlier; if it changes a little, it will be a little later.

France corrupted the Universe, one day it will be punished. The faith will die out in France: three parts of France will not practice any more a religion, or almost no more; the other part will practice it without goodness in practicing it. Then, after [that] the nations will convert, the faith will be re-ignited everywhere.

Before all that arrives, great disorders will arrive, in the Church, and everywhere.

Then, after [that], our Holy Father the Pope will be persecuted. His successor will be a pontiff that nobody expects.

Then, after [that], a great peace will arrive, but it will not last a long time. A monster will come to disturb it.

All that I say to you there will arrive in the other century, [at the] latest in the year two thousand.

Maximin’s Secret – Version 2 – written for Benjamin Sausse, 11 August 1851

On 19 September 1846, I saw a lady bright as the sun, I believe to be the Blessed Virgin. But I never said it was the Blessed Virgin. I’ve always said that I had seen a beautiful lady, but never the Blessed Virgin. It is the Church to judge by what I will say if this is truly the Holy Virgin or anyone else for what I will say here after. She told me in the middle of the story, after the grapes will rot and nuts will spoil. She began by telling me.

If my people do not convert, what I say will happen sooner. If it does not change, it will happen later. Three quarters of France will lose faith and do the other quarter will practice as lukewarm, then turn back to the faith in France.

A Protestant country today in the North [UK] will be converted and by the support of this land other nations will convert. There will come a peace, when peace will come: a monster [Antichrist] that will disturb the peace and peace will come when all nations are converted.

The Pope’s successor will be someone that nobody expects. <He is not Roman.> The monster will come during the peace and the peace and the monster will come in the 19th century or at the latest the twentieth.

The original clerical commentary on the secret

Under these conditions, Maximin, anxious to reveal the whole secret, talking ball at the top of the Eaglet. The symbolic name of the Duke of Reichstadt (1832) then designates his half-brother, Napoleon III, whose reign began, and announced his fall. The viper refers symbolically to the following scheme, and the persecutors of the Third Republic, but also revolutionary and anarchist movements of the Commune (1871). The Marxist regime will make reference itself to the Commune [Communism], more than the 1789 Revolution. We divided the drafting continued in three paragraphs.

The first contains new elements: mainly the emperor. Newer versions of Melanie specify he wants to be pope and emperor at the same time. They indicate symbolically that, like his father, he will try to circumscribe the Pope according to his policy, helping Garibaldi and Victor Emmanuel to the head of the Church, in the words of Pius IX, the prisoner of the Vatican.

An eagle will rise. When it becomes a bit big, it will turn on itself, then it will rise above. Then his feathers will fall to him. Finally, without feathers, it will fall into daggers.

There will come after his death, chaos. Then [comes] a viper, which is now in the bosom of France. She then died. Then the son of Louis XVI arrives, he will rule very little time. A great man will succeed him, and then, after restoring all things, he will retire.

The East [e.g. China, Russia] punishes the West. There will come great misfortunes to France in this war. But it blossom … Then France: Three quarters of the population will lose faith and the other quarter will, but only slightly. Then two great nations will be converted.

England will be the instrument by which all nations of the universe will be converted. All this will happen between 1850 and 1860. The monster will be past the year 60. But wars, revolutions, etc.., between 50 and 60. France recovers the faith, then there will come a great King. The Pope will die; a French Pope will succeed him, and the king and the pope will be one.

There will be a single religion and one kingdom. Then there will come a monster [Antichrist], which ravages the peace, and disturbs the Church. Many [men] will be his victim.
