St. Francis de Sales says: “Praise be to Jesus.”
“The soul who does not honestly know himself – that is to say, his spiritual shortcomings – is open to every sort of error and cannot progress through the Chambers of the United Hearts. Self-knowledge must be based upon humility in order to be genuine. It is pride that encourages the soul to think he is status quo spiritually. Every soul needs improvement in his relationship with God. Every soul should pray for the humility of heart to see what areas of his life he should correct in order to increase in virtue.”
“Do not give in to the fault of criticizing others and not recognizing error in your own heart. This is a form of pride which carries the soul away from the Heart of God. Be critical of yourself and beg God for the grace to improve. You will not be judged according to the faults of others – only your own.”
Read Matthew 7:1-5
Judge not, that you be not judged. For with the judgment you pronounce you will be judged, and the measure you give will be the measure you get. Why do you see the speck that is in your brother’s eye, but do not notice the log that is in your own eye? Or how can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ when there is the log in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take the speck out of your brother’s eye.
