St. John Vianney, Cure d’Ars and Patron of Priests says: “Praise be to Jesus.”
“I tell you, souls who cannot distinguish good from evil or Truth from untruth number in the majority these days. This is so due to the fact that leadership has chosen such compromise and abuses their authority by propagating it. You are now beginning the second generation of this mass compromise of Truth.”
“People fall into Satan’s trap of trying to please people rather than God. Once this priority is set, it is very difficult to reverse it. The problem becomes more complex when any criticism is judged as disrespectful to authority. No one should hold himself above criticism.”
“Good leadership bears the fruit of respect – not control. The sound leader gently leads his flock into the arms of righteousness. A good leader recognizes the Truth and easily chooses good over evil. If the leader does so, his flock will follow. Hearts will change. The more people God gives you to influence, the greater your responsibility. This responsibility begins in families and ends in government and church leaders.”
Read 1 Peter 5:2-4 +
Synopsis – presbyters (religious leaders) are to shepherd their flocks, not under constraint by lording their authority over those in their care; but gently leading them in the way of righteousness by being models by which their flocks pattern themselves after. Then when the Prince of Shepherds appears, they will receive the unfading crown of glory.
Tend the flock of God that is your charge, not by constraint but willingly, not for shameful gain but eagerly, not as domineering over those in your charge but being examples to the flock. And when the chief Shepherd is manifested you will obtain the unfading crown of glory.
