Melanie, the girl seer, wrote out the secret on many different occasions, each time providing more detail.This information was translated from a French book “Découverte du Secret de La Salette,” published by Librairie Arthème Fayard in 2002. This book has the Nihil Obstat from Abbaye Notre-Dame de Tournay, 13 February 2002, Dom Bernard Billet. The Imprimatur is from Èvry, le jour Pâques 2002, Mgr. Michel Dubost.
The secrets are as follows:
Melanie – Version 1, “Secret which Holy Virgin gave me on the Mountain of La Salette on September 19, 1846.” (written 6 July 1851)
Melanie, I will say something to you which you will not say to anybody: The time of the anger of God has arrived!
If, when you say to the people what I said to you a few moments ago, and what I will say to you to still say, if, afterwards, that, they do not convert, (If penitence is not made, and if one does not cease working Sunday, and if one continues with blaspheming the Holy Name of God), in a word, if the face of the earth does not change, God will be avenged against the ungrateful people and slaves of the demon. My Son will make his power burst forth!
Paris, this soiled city of all kinds of crimes, will perish infallibly. Marseilles will be destroyed in little time.
When these things arrive, the disorder will be complete on the Earth, the world will be given up with its impious passions.
The Pope will be persecuted in all parts: they will draw to him above, they will want to put him to death, but they will be able to do nothing to him, the Vicar of God will triumph again this time.
Priests and nuns, and true servants of my Son will be persecuted, and several will die for the faith of Jesus-Christ.
A famine will reign at the same time. After all these things will have arrived, many of the people will recognize the hand of God on them, will convert, and make penitence for their sins.
A great king [note: Great French Monarch] will go up on the throne, and will reign during a few years. Religion will flower again and extend over all the Earth and the fruitfulness will be large, the world glad not to miss anything will start again its disorders, will give up God, and will be devoted to its criminal passions.
[ Among ] ministers of God, and Spouses of Jesus-Christ, there are some who will deliver themselves to the disorder, and this is what will be [ the more ] terrible one. Lastly, a hell will reign on the earth.It will be then the Antichrist is born from a nun; but, woe with her! Many people will believe in him, because he will say that he comes from the heaven, woe to those who will believe it!
Time is not postponed, it will not spend 50 years twice. My child, you will not say what I have just said to you. (You will not say it to anybody, you will not say if you must say it one day, you will not say what it regards), finally you will not say anything until I say to you to say it!

Melanie – Version 2 and 3, 12 and 14 August 1853
J.M.J. Secret that the Blessed Virgin said to me on Mountain of La Salette, September 19, 1853 <note in pencil: slip of the pen for 1846>.
Melanie Mathieu, I’ll tell you something you will not tell anyone until I tell you to say it.
If after you have told the people everything I’ve said and everything I tell you again to say, from what I forbid you to say, if after that the world is not converted if in a word face of the Earth does not change, there will come great misfortunes will come a great famine and war simultaneously, all over France in the first place;
Then, in Russia and in England after the revolution, there will come a great famine in three parts of the world, in the year 1863 during which famine, they will commit many crimes everywhere and especially in cities, but woe to the Clergy, the religious, because they are the ones that attract the greatest evils that come upon the earth, also my son will punish them in a terrible manner;
After these wars and famines the people, for some time, recognize the hand of Almighty God that strikes them, they will return to their religious duties, and calm has returned, but it will last a short time.
The persons consecrated to God will forget their religious duties and will fall into a great relaxation and virtually forgotten of God, then everyone will forget his Creator; whereas this will begin a new punishment, God angry against all the world, will strike them down infallibly as I will say. A bad man will reign over France, he persecutes religion, he will close the churches, he shall burn them;
A large and long famine will come accompanied by pestilence and a civil war at the same time, Paris will be destroyed, Marseilles will be flooded, and it will be during this time that the true servants of God receive the crown of martyrdom, the Pope and ministers will be persecuted, but because they have been faithful, God will be with them, and the head of the Church will win the palm martyrdom and religious brothers and sisters;
The Pope takes his weapons and is ready to march and defend the religion of My Son, he keeps asking the power of the Holy Spirit, and all consecrated to God [because they persecute religion everywhere, many priests and nuns renounce their faith, Oh! My son will be offended by ministers and the spouses of Jesus Christ]. After this persecution there will be more than one before the end of the World.
There will be 3 years of calm, then the birth will occur and the Reign of Antichrist, who will be more than terrible. He will be born of a very austere religious order. This nun is considered the holiest from the monastery, [the father of the Antichrist will be Bishop, etc. etc. Here the Blessed Virgin gave me the rule, then she says another secret to the end of time.] And the nuns who remain in the same convent will be blinded to not recognize that hell leads them. Melanie – Version 4, In 1858, Melanie sends to the pope the complete secret, drafting is lost
It is September 1858 that she dispatches it to Pope Pius XI, supplemented by all that she had not been able yet to reveal to him in 1851.
September 3, 1858, the Ordinary of Darlington, Bishop Hogarth, thus writes Bishop Talbot, superior of the English college:
Sister Marie of the Cross informed me that part of the secret which was given to her by Our Lady in La Salette, was to be reserved until the present year. She consequently wrote a letter to His Holiness, giving the remainder of the secret to him. She is not satisfied to send this document by station, but humbly asks you to be the carrier for it to His Holiness.
A little later he still writes to him:
The letter for His Holiness which is joined to you is a deep secret whose Sister Marie of the Cross says to me that she received from Our Lady in La Salette, but which was to be given to nobody before the year of Our Lord 1858. Nobody has seen anything in this writing or composition, nobody saw the contents or understood anything of it or other things, but what is established on high. I saw it sealed in the presence of Reverend Mother Prioress and of Very Rev. Chan. Brown the Father confessor of the Carmelite nuns.
First known manuscript (Marseilles, about 1860: 5 pages). At the end of September 1860, Melanie arrives to Marseilles; she rewrites the secret for the superiors there, but is not authorized to reveal it. The manuscript (from now on lost) however was copied with Castellammare, at the end of January 1870, and was published by Fr. Félicien Bliard, with the imprimatur of the archbishop’s palace of Naples, in 1873, then found by Fr. Combe in 1902. It was photographed by Fr. Gounin. Communicated by Fr. Bliard, it was published in France in a less precise way from 1870, in particular by the Girard lawyer, in Grenoble (which received for its small work the blessings and autographs of Pope Pius IX).
Melanie – Version 5, The final edition of Lecce (1878-1879) at Castellammare
November 21, 1878, is eleven years after the edition of Maximin, Melanie consigns her own account, neat and detailed, of the appearance. With the place of the account or the Virgin her secret gives him, there or, in 1866, Maximin does not write anything, he transcribes it completely, by supplementing the text of Marseilles definitively. Then Lecce has, with the imprimatur of Bishop Zola of November 15, 1879, publishes this account. In 1904, the year of her death, before leaving France, Lecce will republish this booklet (Lyon, Library of Sacred Heart, and Paris, Vic and Amat).
Melanie, what I will tell you now will not always be secret, you can publish it in 1858.
The priests, ministers of my Son, the priests, by their wicked lives, by their irreverence and their impiety in celebrating the holy mysteries, by love of money, love of honor and of pleasures, priests have become cesspools of impurity. Yes, priests call for vengeance, and vengeance is suspended over their heads.
Woe to the priests and persons consecrated to God, which by their unfaithfulness and their wicked lives are crucifying my Son again! The sins of those dedicated to God cry out towards Heaven and call for vengeance, and now vengeance is at their door, because there is no one left to beg mercy and forgiveness for the people, there are no more generous souls, there is no one worthy of offering the spotless Victim to the Lord for the world.
God will strike in a manner without precedent. Woe to the inhabitants of the earth! God will exhaust His wrath, and no one can escape so many evils combined.
Chiefs, leaders of the people of God have neglected prayer and penance, and the demon has obscured their intelligence, they have become wandering stars which the old devil will drag with his tail to be slain. God will allow the old serpent to cause divisions among those who reign in every society and in all families. Physical and moral agonies will be suffered. God will abandon men to themselves and will send punishments that will follow for more than thirty-five years.
Society is on the verge of the most terrible scourges and of gravest events. Men can expect to be ruled by an iron rod and to drink the chalice of the wrath of God.
The Vicar of my Son, Pope Pius IX should not leave Rome after the year 1859, but he is firm and generous, he fights with the weapons of faith and love and I will be with him. He is suspicious of Napoleon, his heart is double, and when he will be both pope and emperor, soon God will withdraw from him, he is this eagle who, wanting always to rise, will fall on the sword he wanted to use to force the people to be brought up.
Italy will be punished for her ambition in wanting to shake off the yoke of the Lord of Lords. It too, will be left with war, blood will flow on all sides, the churches will be closed or desecrated; priests, religious will be hunted down and killed, and die a cruel death. Several will abandon the faith, and the number of priests and religious who will separate from the true religion shall be great. Among these people there will even be bishops.
May the Pope take guard against the performers of miracles, for the time has come that the most astonishing wonders will take place on earth and in the air.
In the year 1864, Lucifer with a great number of demons will be released from hell, they will abolish the faith little by little and even among those dedicated to God, they will blind them in such a manner, that unless a special grace, these people will take the spirit of these wicked angels: several religious houses will lose the faith entirely and will lose many souls.
Bad books will abound on earth, and the spirits of darkness will spread everywhere a universal slackening in all that concerns the service of God, they will have great power over nature. There will be churches to serve these spirits. People will be transported from one place to another by these evil spirits, even priests, because they will not be guided by the good spirit of the Gospel which is the spirit of humility, charity and zeal for the glory of God.
They will rise from the dead and the righteous. (That is to say that these dead will take the form of righteous souls which had lived on earth, to lead men further astray; these so-called resurrected dead, who will do anything other than the devil in this form, preach another Gospel contrary to that of the true Christ Jesus, denying the existence of Heaven) are still damned souls. All these souls will appear as in their bodies. There will in all places do extraordinary wonders, because the true faith has faded and false light that illuminates the world. Woe to the princes of the Church who will be thinking only of piling riches upon riches to protect their authority and dominate with pride!
The Vicar of my Son will suffer a great deal, because for a time the Church will yield to large persecution, it will be the time of darkness, the Church will witness a frightful crisis.
The true faith of God is forgotten, each individual will want to be himself and be superior to his fellows. They will abolish civil and ecclesiastical, all order and all justice would be trampled underfoot; only homicides, hatred, jealousy, lies and dissension without love for country or for the family.
The Holy Father will suffer much. I will be with him until the end and receive his sacrifice.
The mischievous would attempt his life several times to do harm to shorten his days but neither he nor his successor will see the triumph of the Church of God.
Civil governments have all of one mind which will be to abolish and do away with every religious principle, to make way for materialism, atheism, spiritualism and all sorts of vices.
In the year 1865, we will see the abominations in the holy places; in convents, the flowers of the Church will be putrefied and the demon will proceed as the king of hearts. Then those at the head of religious communities must stand on guard for people that they should receive, because the devil will use all his malice to introduce into religious orders persons devoted to sin, for disorders and love of carnal pleasures will be spread throughout the earth.
France, Italy, Spain and England will be at war; blood flow in the streets, the French will fight with the French, Italian with Italian; then there will be a general war which will terrible. For a time, God will not remember most of France, or Italy, because the Gospel of Jesus Christ is no longer known. The wicked will make use of all their evil. Men will kill, massacre each other even in their homes.
The first blow of His thundering sword, the mountains and nature will tremble in terror for the disorders and crimes of men pierce the vault of heaven. Paris will be burned and Marseilles engulfed; several cities will be shaken and swallowed up by earthquakes, they will think all is lost only homicides, we will hear only the clash of arms and blasphemy.
The righteous will suffer greatly; their prayers, their penances and their tears will rise up to Heaven, and all the people of God ask for forgiveness and mercy, and ask for my help and intercession. Then Jesus Christ, by an act of His justice and His great mercy, will command His angels to kill all enemies. Suddenly, the persecutors of the Church of Jesus Christ and all the men given over to sin will perish and the earth will become like a desert.
Then will be peace, the reconciliation of God with men, Jesus Christ will be served, worshiped and glorified; Charity will flourish everywhere. The new kings will be the right arm of Holy Church, which will be strong, humble, pious, poor but fervent in imitation of the virtues of Jesus Christ. The gospel will be preached everywhere and men will make great progress in the faith, because there will be unity among the workers of Jesus Christ and that men will live in fear of God.
This peace among men will not be long, twenty-five years of plentiful harvests will make them forget that the sins of men are the cause of all troubles on earth.
A forerunner of the Antichrist, with his troops from several nations, fight against the true Christ, the only Savior of the world, he will shed much blood, and want to annihilate the worship of God to make himself look like a God.
The earth will be smitten with every plague (also pestilence and famine which will be widespread) there will be wars until the last war will be fought by the ten kings of Antichrist, which will all have kings same plan and will be the only rulers of the world. Before this happens, there will be a kind of false peace in the world, people think only of entertainment, the wicked will engage in all sorts of sins, but the children of Holy Church, the children of faith, my true imitators, will grow in God’s Love in the virtues that are dearest to me. Blessed are the souls humbly guided by the Holy Spirit! I will fight with them until they reach a fullness of life.
Nature demands vengeance for men and she trembles with dread at what must happen to the earth stained with crime. Tremble, earth, and you who profess to serve Jesus Christ and, inside, you adore yourselves, tremble, for God will hand you over to His enemy, because the holy places are in corruption; many convents are no longer houses of God, but pastures for Asmodeus and his family.
It will be during this time that the Antichrist will be born of a Hebrew religious, of a false virgin who will communicate with the old serpent, the master of impurity, his father will be Bishop.; At birth, he will vomit blasphemies, he will have teeth, in a word, it will be the devil incarnate, he will scream horribly, he will perform wonders, he will feed on nothing but impurity. He will have brothers who, although not devils incarnate like him, will be children of evil to twelve years, they will draw attention by the gallant victories they will win, and soon they will each lead armies , aided by the legions of hell.
The seasons will be altered, the earth will produce only bad fruit, the stars lose their regular motion, the moon will only reflect a faint reddish glow, water and fire will give the Globe of the Earth convulsive movements and terrible earthquakes which will swallow up mountains, cities, etc..
Rome will lose faith and become the seat of the Antichrist.
The demons of the air with the Antichrist will perform great wonders on earth and in the air, and men are increasingly perverted. God will take care of His faithful servants and men of goodwill, the Gospel will be preached everywhere, all peoples and all nations will know the truth.
I make an urgent appeal to the Earth, I call the true disciples of God living and reigning in heaven, I call the true followers of Christ made man, the only true Savior of men, I call my children, My true devotees, those who have given themselves to me so that I may lead them to my divine Son, those whom I carry in my arms and say, those who lived in my mind. Finally I called the apostles of the last times, the faithful disciples of Jesus Christ who lived in a contempt of the world and of themselves, in poverty and humility, in contempt and in silence, in prayer, and mortification, in chastity and union with God, in suffering and unknown to the world.
It is time they came out and light the earth. Go and show yourselves as My cherished children, I am with you and you, if your faith is the light that enlightens you in these unhappy days. May your zeal make you famished for the glory and honor of Jesus Christ. Fight, children of light, you, the few who can see for this is the time of times, the end of ends.
The Church will be eclipsed, the world will be in dismay. But now Enoch and Elijah filled with the Spirit of God, they preach with the might of God, and men of good will believe in God and many souls will be comforted; they will make great progress by virtue of the Holy Spirit and condemn the devilish lapses of the Antichrist. Woe to the inhabitants of the earth! There will be bloody wars and famines, plagues and contagious diseases, it will rain with a fearful hail of animals; thunderstorms which will shake cities, earthquakes which will swallow up countries; voices will be heard in the air, and men will beat their heads against walls, call for their death, and on the other side death will be their torment; blood flow on all sides.
Who will win if God does not decrease the time of trial? By blood, tears and prayers of the righteous God will relent – Enoch and Elijah will be put to death; Pagan Rome will disappear; fire will fall from heaven and consume three cities; the whole universe will be struck with terror, and many be seduced because they did not worship the true Christ living among them. It is time that the sun is darkened, only faith will survive.
Now is the time when the abyss opens. Here is the king of kings of darkness, here is the Beast with his subjects, calling himself the Savior of the world. He will rise proudly into the air to go to heaven. He will be smothered by the breath of St. Michael the Archangel. He will fall, and the earth for three days will be in continual evolutions, will open its bosom full of fire and will be plunged for eternity with all his followers into the everlasting chasms of hell. Then water and fire will purge the earth and consume all the works of men’s pride and all will be renewed, and God will be served and glorified.
